173. Jesus taught many things about sex and marriage which were difficult to live in both ancient times and today. But we are not alone as we face these difficulties. Life in the Body of Christ is meant to be lived as interdependent members, who build one another up in love.160 The Church’s teaching, sacraments, and community all exist to help us on the journey. With patience, forgiveness, and trust, in the Body of Christ, together we can heal and live in ways that might otherwise seem impossible.

In its introduction, the document says its aim is to present “Catholic teaching in a way that is fresh, insightful, and accessible to contemporary Catholics and all people of good will.” The catechesis “offers a narrative beginning with our creation, soberly noting our fall and the challenges we face, but emphasizing God’s plan for our salvation. Love is our mission, and it is by loving God and one another that we will be fully alive.”
