St. Joseph Sister Eleanor Shields, (formerly Sister Mary Vincent), 92, died Sept. 17 at St. Joseph Villa in Flourtown. She was in the 70th year of her religious life.
Born in Philadelphia, Sister Eleanor was the daughter of Charles Shields and Mary Ellen Conroy Shields. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1943 from St. Stephen Parish and professed her vows in 1945.

Sister Eleanor taught in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and in the Allentown and Trenton Dioceses, and she also served as a principal in Pottsville, Pa., and in Maple Shade, N.J. In 2011, Sister Eleanor became a resident of St. Joseph Villa where she remained until the time of her death.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sept. 22 at St. Joseph Villa.
She is survived by members of her S.S.J. community, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Eleanor was predeceased by her parents and four siblings, including St. Joseph Sister Agnes Shields.
