In the wake of Hurricane Irma’s devastation of the Caribbean region, Archbishop Charles Chaput has asked that all parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia consider taking up a voluntary collection over any one of the next three weekends to support continued relief efforts.
All proceeds from this special collection will be dedicated to assisting the Diocese of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and its faithful, led by Bishop Herbert A. Bevard. He is a former Philadelphia priest serving in the archdiocese until he was ordained bishop for the St. Thomas Diocese in 2008.
Bishop Bevard and those he shepherds face the daunting task of rebuilding their island community in the months ahead, and the temporal needs are great at this time.
