Sister Mercita Marie Valentine, I.H.M., died Feb. 21 in Camilla Hall, Immaculata in the 67th year of her religious life. She was 86 years old.
Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1951 from St. Laurence Parish, Upper Darby, and professed her vows in 1953.
Sister Mercita taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia the Dioceses of Allentown, Harrisburg and Metuchen.
Before Sister Mercita’s last assignment in the Apostolate of Prayer in Camilla Hall, she served as a high school office assistant.

The funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 27 at Camilla Hall. The principal celebrant and homilist was Father William E. Dean, and Msgr. Joseph Logrip concelebrated.
In addition to her congregation of IHM Sisters, Sister Mercita is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Catherine Pritchard Valentine, siblings Robert (Betty), Carl (Elsie), Paul (Mary) and Rosemary Green (Edward).
