Indian Catholics from throughout the Greater Philadelphia area will gather to celebrate their faith and their rich heritage.
Philadelphia Auxiliary Bishop John McIntyre will be at the principal celebrant at a Sept. 17 Mass that will open the annual Indian Catholic Heritage Day.
The liturgy will take place at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Forane Church, located at 608 Welsh Road in Philadelphia.
Organized by the Indian American Catholic Association of Greater Philadelphia (IACA), the Mass will begin with a heritage procession at 3:30 p.m.
During the meeting and dinner that will follow the liturgy, IACA will honor Religious Sister of the Assumption Sister Gertrude Borres, director of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office for Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees; and Amilyn Thomas, a young adult parishioner at St. Thomas and human rights advocate.
