St. Paul Parish, located in the heart of the Italian Market in South Philadelphia, will kick off its inaugural neighborhood concert series on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. with a tribute to Mario Lanza. The concert will feature Justin Gonzalez, tenor, and Brooklyn Evangelista, pianist.
The “Mario Lanza Concert Series” showcases local Philadelphia music talent and aims to make the arts accessible to our surrounding community.
Song selections include music from Lanza’s MGM films, various sacred pieces, and classic tenor Arias, such as Nessun Dorma. The concert will begin with a brief presentation on Lanza’s life and work from William Ronayne, president of Mario Lanza Institute and Museum.
The second part of the series will take place on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
“From the 19th Century, with Love: Celebrating the Great Romantics” will feature pianists Emiko Edwards and Olena Haviuk-Sheremet. The performance will include music for piano four-hands written by C. Schumann, R. Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Beach, Chaminade, Saint-Saens, and Chopin.
Tickets for each concert are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for children ages 12 and under. Free parking is available across the street.
