Retired Permanent Deacon Juan F. Ramos, Jr., died on July 22, 2023, he was 71 years old.
Deacon Ramos was ordained at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on June 6, 1999, by Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua. He was assigned to Saint Peter the Apostle Parish/National Shrine of Saint John Neumann, Philadelphia, where he remained until his retirement on August 8, 2021.
Deacon Ramos was employed as a superintendent of an asbestos removal company, and later as a labor relations representative for the Labors International Union of North America.
He also served as a member of the Philadelphia City Council from 2004 until 2008. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in labor-management relations.
He was also an activist for the Puerto Rican Community in Philadelphia.
Deacon Ramos is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ana Sostre-Ramos, daughters Alicia Ruiz and Anita Ramos, son Andres Ramos-Cuadrado, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four siblings (Elsa Ramos, Gladys Ramos-Colon, Jose Ramos, and Pedro Ramos).
Reception of the body and visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, beginning at 9:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 12 Noon, at Saint Peter the Apostle Roman Church, 1019 North 5th Street, Philadelphia. Most Reverend John J. McIntyre will be the principal celebrant.
Concelebrants will be Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman, and Reverend Richard S. Bennett, C.Ss.R., the homilist will be Reverend Richard S. Bennett, C.Ss.R. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
