Reverend James A. Grant, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Joseph Parish, Warrington, died on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.
Father Grant was born on January 25, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late William F. Grant, and the late Eleanor M. Griffin. Father Grant attended Saint Madeline Sophie Parochial School, Philadelphia, Norwood Academy, Philadelphia, Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School, Philadelphia, and Jesuit Novitiate, Wernersville, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Grant was ordained on May 21, 1966, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Grant served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Ignatius of Loyola Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Frances Cabrini Parish, Fairless Hills; and Saint James Parish, Philadelphia. He was a Student Priest, at Catholic University of America, Washington, DC from 1973-1975.
He served on the Faculty at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Wynnewood, and in 1977 was named Dean. He served as Assistant Judicial Vicar, Office of the Metropolitan Tribunal from 1982-1992. He served as Pastor, Assumption B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Joseph Parish, Warrington, and he was named Pastor Emeritus in June 2010. He also served as Senior Priest at Saint Matthias Parish, Bala Cynwyd; and Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Springfield, until his retirement in June 2017.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Springfield, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 9:30 AM, followed by a viewing at 10:00 AM. Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Joseph C. Bordonaro, Reverend Anthony J. Costa, Reverend Matthew J. Tralies, Reverend Monsignor Michael T. McCulken, and Reverend Robert G. Suskey will be the homilist.
Father Grant is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
