Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez sent a letter Dec. 7 to the Jewish Community as it marks the occasion of Hanukkah, which in 2023 begins Dec. 7 at sundown and concludes at sundown on Dec. 15.

Dear Friends in the Jewish Faith Tradition,  

Together with the people of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, I write to extend prayerful best wishes as you celebrate the Festival of Lights in all of its beauty. In this time of great uncertainty throughout the world, the Hanukkah menorah reminds us of the enduring triumph of light over darkness and provides enduring hope for humanity. 
 

As you recall the glory of the Temple’s re-dedication by Judas Maccabeus centuries ago, may the glow of the menorah fill you with happiness as you strengthen the bonds of faith, family, and friends.
