As faithful prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord, Archbishop Pérez and the auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia shared the following special message Dec. 20.
***
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light… You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing.” (Isaiah 9:1-2)
On the first Christmas, God gave us the most important gift of all. Through the birth of His only Son, God the Father gave eternal light to humanity. This miracle of Christ incarnate in the world fills us with tremendous awe and gratitude.
You radiate that love when you recognize the face of Christ in those around you and serve them, especially those most in need. The simple acts of kindness and charity you show to fellow parishioners, neighbors, family, and friends compounds with the good deeds of others to build God’s kingdom on earth. During this joyful season, may the light radiating from the Christ child’s manger kindle the spirit of Missionary Discipleship in your hearts and inspire us all to be instruments of hope, charity and grace. Know that you and your families are remembered in all of the Masses celebrated at Christmas this year.
May God bless you with a joyous Christmas as well as a Happy, Healthy, and Holy New Year!
