On the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez called on the faithful to pray for those who continue to mourn loved ones lost that day and to work toward unity rooted in faith and hope.
In a video message marking the anniversary, Archbishop Pérez reflected on the attacks that claimed thousands of innocent lives and left lasting physical and emotional wounds on countless others.
“Americans endured the trauma of September 11, 2001 with determination not to give in to fear, but to comfort and console one another,” he said.
The archbishop noted that the years since the attacks have reminded people of the fragility of life and the importance of placing their trust in God. He encouraged all people to share Christ’s compassionate love and to be instruments of peace.
Archbishop Pérez also asked for prayers for families and friends still grieving losses from Sept. 11 and expressed gratitude for the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers, emergency responders, and members of the military.
“May we never forget,” he said, “and may God bless you.”
