Reverend Paul S. Quinter, Pastor Emeritus, Maternity B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia, died on Friday, March 22, 2024.
Father Quinter was born on March 2, 1956, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Paul S. Quinter, Sr., and the late Beatrice P. Flanagan. Father Quinter attended Saint Helena Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Quinter was ordained on May 15, 1982, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Quinter served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Dorothy Parish, Drexel Hill. He attended the Gregorian University and Columbia School of Journalism in Rome. In 1988 he was appointed Administrative Secretary to the Archbishop Anthony Bevilacqua. He also served on the faculty at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Wynnewood. In 1991 he was named Editor, for The Catholic Standard & Times. He was appointed Pastor, Saint Monica Parish, Philadelphia. In 2003 he was the English Speaking Editor, L’Osservatore Romano in Rome. In June 2008 he was appointed Pastor, Maternity B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia, and named Pastor Emeritus, there in 2024.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Maternity B.V.M. Church, Philadelphia, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 4:30 PM followed by a viewing. A Parish Mass will be celebrated
at 7:00PM. Most Reverend Nelson J. Perez will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Father Quinter at Maternity B.V.M. Church, on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM. The viewing will be held beginning at 8:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Michael J. Gerlach, Reverend Thomas A. Nasta, Reverend John J. Ames, Reverend Francis J. Mulranen, and Father Michael J. Kelly will be the homilist.
Father Quinter is survived by his sisters Eileen Wittig, Kathleen (Greg), Maureen (Dave), and Brother, Christopher (Julie), and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia.
