Sister Rita Frances Hekker, SSJ
Sister Rita Frances Hekker SSJ (formerly Sister Francella), age 90, died May 15, 2024, at Saint Joseph Villa.
The daughter of the late Frank and Wilhelmina (Bohack) Hekker, she attended St. Vincent Grade School and St. Vincent High School in Newark, New Jersey.
In September 1958 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1966.
Sister Rita ministered in the Dioceses of Baltimore, Philadelphia, Trenton and Washington DC.
Sister Rita is preceded in death by her brothers Henry and Frank Hekker and sisters, Lois Henn Hekker and Winifred Strong. She is survived by her sister Mary Jane Hansen, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and members of her congregation, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 24, 2024. Services will be live streamed from the Saint Joseph Villa website www.stjosephvilla.org. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sister’s name to Saint Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031.
