Deacon Richard G. (Dick) Wirth, died on Sunday, June 2, 2024. He was 89 years old.

Deacon Wirth was ordained at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on May 23, 1993, by the Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone. He was assigned to Saint Cornelius Parish, Chadds Ford, where he remained until his retirement in 2011.

Deacon Wirth was born in 1934 to Anthony and Cecilia Wirth. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. He had attended Notre Dame University and John Carroll University, and prior to his retirement, he was employed as an engineer for Magnetek, Inc. He was married to his wife, Clara for nearly 65 years, prior to her death on April 10, 2023. He is survived by his children: Gregory, Debra, Michelle, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara.

An evening Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Saint Cornelius Church, Chadds Ford, at 5:00 PM, followed by visitation from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Saint Cornelius Catholic Church, 160 Ridge Road, Chadds Ford. The principal celebrant will be the Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman. The homilist will be Reverend Michael J. Gerlach. Interment will be at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, 10 Old Church Rd, Greenville, Delaware.
