Earlier tonight, July 13, Archbishop Perez issued the following statement regarding the violence at the political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania today.

I was deeply saddened and dismayed to learn of the shooting that took place today during a rally with Former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
I call on the people of the Church in Philadelphia to join me in prayer for the swift recovery of Former President Trump and the attendee who was injured, that those who were killed will rest in the peace of the Lord, and that God will console those mourning the loss of a loved one.
Americans must join in solidarity to condemn today’s act of political violence and violence in all forms. Working together, we can resolve our differences through peaceful dialogue and conquer the sin of hatred.
May Our Blessed Mother, Patroness of the Americas, strengthen our resolve to encounter all of our brothers and sisters with compassionate hearts and open minds while bringing peace to our country.
