Reverend William E. Grogan, Pastor, Holy Cross Parish, Philadelphia, died on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
Father Grogan was born on December 17, 1955, in Baltimore Maryland. He is the son of the late William E. Grogan, Sr, and the late Nora M. Loughrey. Father Grogan attended Saint Teresa of Avila Parochial School, Valley Forge, and Our Lady of Charity Parochial School, Brookhaven. He attended Saint Joseph’s Preparatory High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Grogan was ordained on May 21, 1983, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Grogan served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Martin of Tours Parish, Philadelphia, and Saint Kevin Parish, Springfield. He served on the Faculty at Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia, and Saint Pius X High School, Pottstown. He served as Newman Chaplain, Drexel University Newman Center, and as President, at Archbishop Carroll High School, Radnor. In 2009 he was named Pastor, at All Saints Parish, Philadelphia, and in July 2013 he was named Pastor, Holy Cross Parish, Philadelphia.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Holy Cross Church, Philadelphia, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 8:30 AM followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will
celebrate the Funeral Mass for Father Grogan at Holy Cross Church, Philadelphia, on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor David E. Diamond, Reverend Edward J. Hallinan, Reverend G. Dennis Gill, and Reverend Monsignor Paul A. DiGirolamo, Father Grogan’s brother from the Diocese of Trenton, Reverend James Grogan will be the homilist.
Father Grogan is survived by his brothers Rev. James J. Grogan Diocese of Trenton, Thomas (Nancy) Sisters, Maryanne Porter (Jim), Patricia Byrnes (Don), Jeanmarie Blaise
(Robert), and many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at Saint Denis Cemetery in Havertown, Pennsylvania.
