Daniel J. Dougherty, Jr., will become the new Chief Financial and Operating Officer for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Secretariat for Catholic Human Services (CHS), the archdiocese announced Sept. 26. The appointment, made by CHS Secretary Heather Huot, formally takes effect Jan. 1, 2025.

He will succeed Deacon Franz Fruehwald, who is retiring at the end of the year after more than three decades of service to those in need in the Philadelphia region. He has served as CFO for CHS since 2017.

Dougherty will begin working with CHS staff and Deacon Fruehwald on Monday, Oct. 7 to ensure for a smooth transition.

“Dan’s leadership will be invaluable as we continue our mission of empowering and uplifting our neighbors with compassionate care and essential services,” said Huot.

In his new role, Dougherty brings more than 30 years of finance leadership and operational management experience. He is a Certified Public Accountant in Pennsylvania and a graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School and Villanova University.

He is also member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Chief Financial Officer Network.

Most recently, Dougherty served as the CFO at Velocity Venture Partners in Bala Cynwyd where he built and led all finance, accounting, and capital marketing operations for the private equity firm, specializing in the acquisition, repositioning, and management of industrial and flex assets.

“As a lifelong resident of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, I know well how CHS’ faith-filled compassion and commitment can transform lives within our community. I look forward to helping drive the vision and mission of CHS into the future,” said Dougherty.

Dougherty and his wife Janeen have two children are members of Saint Patrick Parish in Malvern.
