Sister Mary Anne Craig, OSF

Sister Mary Anne Craig, OSF, 62, died in Assisi House on Thursday, November 14, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 32 years. Sister Mary Anne was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish in Whitehall and a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Allentown.  She entered the congregation in 1990 and professed her first vows in 1992. She earned a BA in English and Journalism from Mount St. Mary’s College and a Doctorate in Theology from La Salle University. She ministered primarily in education.

Sister Mary Anne taught for 13 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, where she began in elementary education at St. Bonaventure School and St. Mary of Assumption School, both in Philadelphia.  For 11 years she taught at Little Flower High School. She then served the congregation for two years as the novice/formation director, before continuing her education.  Before her death, she served in local house ministry at her home in Feasterville-Trevose.  Prior to entering religious life, she also taught at St. Barbara School in Philadelphia and Waldron Mercy Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania.

Additional ministry includes teaching for three years at Most Pure Heart of Mary School in Mobile, Alabama.

All services will be held in Our Lady of Angels Convent on Wednesday, November 20, and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Mary is survived by her brothers, Francis, Joseph, Anthony [Lori], John [Kimberly], and Thomas [Stacy], her sister Catherine (Kate) Altmire [Francis], her many nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan family.
