Dear Friends in the Jewish Community,
Together with the Catholic people of the Philadelphia region, I extend prayerful best wishes as you prepare to celebrate the Festival of Lights in all of its beauty. We live in a time of uncertainty and violent conflict throughout the world, particularly in the Holy Land. The Hanukkah menorah reminds us of the ultimate triumph of light over darkness. With each day’s lighted candle, humanity receives a sign of enduring hope fueled by faith.
As you recall the glory of the Temple’s rededication by Judas Maccabeus centuries ago, may the glow of the menorah fill you with joy as you strengthen the loving bonds of faith, family, and friends.
Chag Urim Sameach!
Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D.
Archbishop of Philadelphia
