Reverend Salvatore J. Pronesti

Reverend Salvatore J. Pronesti, Pastor Emeritus, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Bridgeport, died on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

Father Pronesti was born on November 28, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Salvatore Pronesti, and the late Frances Bavusa. Father Pronesti attended Baldwin Elementary School, Saint Monica Elementary School, Philadelphia and Bishop Neuman High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Pronesti was ordained on May 20, 1967, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Pronesti served as Parochial Vicar, King of Peace Parish, Philadelphia, and Saint Eleanor Parish, Collegeville. He also served on the Faculty at Cardinal O’Hara High School Springfield, Bishop Conwell High School, Fairless Hills, Archbishop Ryan Girls High School, Philadelphia, and Archbishop Prendergast High School for Girls, Drexel Hill. He was named Pastor, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Bridgeport, in 1994 and in 2014 he was named Pastor Emeritus.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Holy Saviour Church, Norristown, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 9:00 AM followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Edward Deliman will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Charles Noone, Reverend James Hutchins, and Reverend Monsignor Charles L. Sangermano will be the homilist.

Father Pronesti survives by his sister, Elizabeth, and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
