Sister Ruthann O’Mara SSJ, (formerly Sister John Mercedes SSJ), age 80, died December 21, 2024, at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point, NJ.

The daughter of the late John Joseph and Anna (Bartle) O’Mara, she attended Corpus Christi Grade School and John W. Hallahan High School.

In September 1963 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1971.

Sister Ruthann ministered in the dioceses of Camden, Philadelphia, Trenton and Wilmington DE.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph O’Mara. She is survived by her siblings, William (Linda) O’Mara, Margaret Hennelly-Bergin, Florence (Robert) Hartman, Thomas (Rosemary) O’Mara, and Helen O’Mara, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and members of her Congregation, the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

Visitation by relatives and friends will begin at 9:30 am on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Saint Joseph Villa in Flourtown. A Memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. Services will be live-streamed from the Saint Joseph Villa website www.stjosephvilla.org.
