Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez released the following statement Feb. 22 requesting prayers for our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

I call for everyone throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to join in prayer for Pope Francis as he continues to battle serious illness. Let us keep the Holy Father close to our hearts and ask God to strengthen him.

The following is a suggested petition for the Universal Prayer for Mass for Sunday and the next several days for use throughout our local Church.

“For our Holy Father, Pope Francis,
that he may be strengthened in every way by the Lord in his present suffering
and be uplifted by the prayers for him by people all over the world.

Let us pray to the Lord. R. Lord, hear our prayer.”

May God ease the suffering of Pope Francis and return him to health so that he may continue his Petrine Ministry for the good of the Universal Church and our world.
