Three men were ordained Permanent Deacons for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on Saturday, May 9 in the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul during Mass celebrated by Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez. Those ordained include Kevin J. Kelly, John A. Milius, and Shawn P. Terkhorn. Read more about each of the men here.
As ordained clergy, a deacon’s ministry entails proclaiming, preaching, and teaching God’s Word, assisting the bishop and priest at the Liturgy, assisting at funerals, ministering to the sick and dying, leading the community in prayer and in sacramental liturgies, baptizing, witnessing marriages, and exercising administrative leadership in the Church.
