
Permanent Deacon Joseph F. Houser
Permanent Deacon Joseph F. Houser, passed away on June 4, 2026, at the age of 87.
Deacon Houser was born on April 20, 1939, to the late Joseph and Margaret (née Prendergast) Houser. He was raised in Southwest Philadelphia and attended Saint Joseph’s College receiving a B.A. in Industrial Engineering. He then worked at Honeywell, Inc., until he retired in 1995.
He was ordained on May 25, 1986, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, and he was initially assigned as Permanent Deacon at Corpus Christi, Lansdale from June 1986 to September 1989. Then he was assigned to St. Frances Cabrini, Fairless Hills from September 1989 to February 1995. He moved to Arizona in 1995 and was assigned to the Diocese of Phoenix, Arizona from February 1995 to June 2002. Then returned to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and was assigned to Sacred Heart, Royersford in June 2002 until his retirement in February 2011.
Deacon Houser is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvonne (née Capuzzi), two sons Gregory and Douglas and two daughters Wendy and Robyn and three grandchildren. He also survived by his brother Donald Houser.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Daylesford Abbey, 220 South Valley Road, Paoli. The principal celebrant will be Reverend Joseph Serano, O. Praem.
