Sister Mary Dwyer, I.H.M., formerly Sister Maria Redempta, died Dec. 13, 2011 at Camilla Hall in Immaculata. She was 84, and in the 65th year of her religious life.
Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1946 from St. Martin of Tours Parish in Philadelphia. She professed her first vows in 1949.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Immaculata University and a master’s degree from West Chester University. She taught in elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and in the Dioceses of Allentown; Savannah, Ga.; Camden and Metuchen, N.J.; and Arlington, Va.
In 2007 she was assigned to Camilla Hall to a ministry of prayer.
She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Elizabeth Foley Dwyer.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 17 at Camilla Hall.
She is survived by a sister, Catherine Myers; a brother, Francis, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as members of her religious community.
