The Out of School Time Programs, sponsored by Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, hosted “Lights On After School — Philly Truck 4 Kids Fall Festival” Oct. 24 to showcase the talents of the at-risk youths served by OST in Philadelphia. Held at Holy Innocents School in Philadelphia’s Juniata Park section, the event was one of more than 8,000 held around the nation and organized by the Afterschool Alliance to provide support for programs such as Out of School Time.
The Philadelphia 76ers Dance Team revved up the festival’s participants and numerous food trucks served their specialties, donating up to 15 percent of the proceeds to support after school programs. Such programs inspire children to learn after school, keep them safe in the sometimes perilous afternoon hours and relieve working families of worries about their children’s activities outside of school time.
Catholic Social Services opened its first after school programs in Philadelphia more than 20 years ago. Today it serves more than 2,200 young people in the city in Catholic schools and community centers. (Photos by Sarah Webb)
