The Association of Church Musicians in Philadelphia (ACMP) is offering a number of awards to honor and encourage youth who serve as liturgical musicians in their parishes.

The ACMP’s 2019 Student Awards will confer five prizes of $100 to eighth grade recipients and five prizes of $200 to high school winners. All nominees will receive a certificate of recognition. The awards recognize students’ musical competency and spiritual commitment.

The Peter LaManna Excellence in Musical Scholarship will provide $1,000 for a graduating high school senior’s undergraduate studies or participation in liturgy workshops and conferences. The award honors the late liturgical musician who served as director of music and choirmaster at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, and as chair of the Fine Arts Department and director of music at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.

Applicants for the scholarship must be actively involved as musicians in their parish liturgies, demonstrate acceptable academic performance and obtain the support of their school principals, music directors and pastors.

The application deadline for both awards is Feb. 15. Nominating music directors must be ACMP members.

The winners will be announced on Sunday, March 31 at 6 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul.
