One of the oldest Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia welcomed Archbishop Nelson Perez May 10 for a Mass celebrating a sacrament of youth. He conferred the sacrament of confirmation on 14 young men and women during a Mass he celebrated for parishioners and with the Jesuit priests who serve Old St. Joseph Parish, Philadelphia. St. Joseph’s was founded in 1733 by priests of the Society of Jesus — making it the second oldest in the archdiocese — in what is today a nondescript street in Old City Philadelphia, near 4th and Walnut streets.
