On Sept. 13, the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul celebrated the 50th anniversary of its designation as a Minor Basilica, an honor bestowed by Pope St. Paul VI in 1976. Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez was the principal celebrant of the solemn Mass, which drew parishioners and guests to commemorate the cathedral’s enduring role as the mother church of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Relics of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, visiting the Philadelphia region as part of a special tour, were also on display for veneration during the celebration.
