The Legion of Mary is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding worldwide, and a local Mass with the Philadelphia Senatus will mark the occasion this Saturday, Sept. 11.

All Catholics are invited to the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, where Bishop John McIntyre will celebrate the anniversary Mass at 1 p.m.

Concelebrating the Mass are Father Addisalem Mekonnen, spiritual director of the Philadelphia Senatus, and Father Hugh Gillespie, S.M.M., who will also preach the homily.

Faithful will pray the rosary and Legion prayers before Mass at 12:30 p.m.

The Legion of Mary is an international association of lay Catholics finding Jesus through prayer, works of mercy and evangelization rooted in Marian spirituality and commitment to the Holy Spirit.

The first meeting of the Legion of Mary took place in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 7, 1921.
