“Earlier this week, our city was gripped by profound sadness and shock reeling in the aftermath of the mass shooting in the Kingsessing neighborhood. Five innocent people were killed and others, including young children, were injured. Thanks to the swift and brave action of law enforcement, the assailant was apprehended and further loss of life was prevented.

We all share a responsibility to show love for our neighbors, and treat them with dignity and respect. At this moment of deep pain and mourning, I ask all people of goodwill to pray for the souls of the victims of the Kingsessing neighborhood shooting and that God will bring strength to all those coping with voids that cannot be filled. May the Lord pour His mercy upon them and hold them in His loving embrace. May He embolden and strengthen all of us to build and defend a culture of love and respect for all of our brothers and sisters.”

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D.
