One of the six baskets up for raffle through CRS.

Catholic Relief Services is once again hosting a fair-trade giving basket raffle this Advent season.

Sponsored by the CRS Philadelphia Advocacy Chapter the event runs now through Dec. 19.

Fair-trade items allow faithful to reflect on the people behind the products as well as the importance of our purchasing decisions. Fair trade items also invite us to live out the Catholic social teaching principle of respecting the dignity of work, rights of workers, and caring for the poor.

All proceeds from the raffle will benefit CRS’ work globally as well as the efforts of the Aquinas Center in South Philadelphia that welcomes asylum seekers in the Philadelphia area.

Tickets are being sold for one for $3.00 or two for $5.00. There will be six prize baskets valued at approximately $50 each.

Two of the baskets include fresh seasonal fruit delivered to the winner’s home from The Fruit Guys; two baskets include fair trade coffee, tea, and chocolate from Dean’s Beans; and the last two baskets include a variety of fair-trade wine and snacks.

Tickets may be purchased through Venmo @Anne-HAyella or by check payable to Anne H. Ayella/Nutritional Development Services, 222 N. 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.

For additional information, please contact Anne Ayella at aayella@archphila.org.
