Reverend Charles J. McElroy

Reverend Charles J. McElroy, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Mary Parish, Schwenksville, died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

Father McElroy was born on July 29, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Charles A. McElroy and the late Margaret M. Ward. Father McElroy attended Our Lady of Victory and Saint Gregory Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Saint Thomas More High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father McElroy was ordained on May 16, 1964, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by Most Reverend John Cardinal Krol. Father McElroy served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Fallsington. He served on the faculty at Cardinal O’Hara High School, Springfield, from 1965-1993. He was named Pastor Saint Mary Parish, Schwenksville, in 1993, and in 2013, he was named Pastor Emeritus.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Joseph Church, Ambler, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 9:30 AM followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will
celebrate the Funeral Mass for Father McElroy at Saint Joseph Church, Ambler, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend James T. McGuinn and Reverend Stephen P. DeLacy will be the homilist.

Father McElroy is survived by his sister Rosalie Alstrom (David) and his nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
