Reverend Edward A. Windhaus, Pastor Emeritus, Saint James Parish, Elkins Park, died on Monday, September 9, 2024.
Father Windhaus was born on October 29, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Edward J. Windhaus and the late Catherine Brecker. Father Windhaus attended Holy Angels and Saint Athanasius Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Cardinal Dougherty High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.
Father Windhaus was ordained on May 20, 1972, at The Cathedral Basilia of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by his Eminence John Cardinal Krol. Father Windhaus served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Levittown, Saint Henry Parish, Philadelphia, Saint Matthew Parish, Conshohocken, Saint Pius X Parish, Broomall, and Saint Maria Goretti Parish, Hatfield. In 1974 Father Windhaus attended the Catholic University of America, in Washington DC. He served as Pastor, Saint Titus Parish, Norristown, from 1999-2005 and Newman Chaplain from 2005-2010 Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Swarthmore Colleges. In September 2010, he was appointed Pastor, Saint James Parish, Elkins Park and named Pastor Emeritus, in June 2019.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint James Church, Elkins Park on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 8:30 AM followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman
will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Father Windhaus at Saint James Church, Elkins Park, on Monday, September 16, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor John J. Eckert and Reverend William S. Harrison will be the homilist.
Father Windhaus is survived by his brother Robert (Maria), sisters, Linda Geiger, Teresa Dunn (Michael), many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Interment will be at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
