Sister Karen Washabaugh SSJ, (formerly S. Margaret Mary), age 79, died on November 20, 2024, at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

The daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret (nee Spahr), she attended Corpus Christi Grade School and Chambersburg High School.

In September 1962 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1970.

Sister Karen ministered in the dioceses of Baltimore, Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Trenton.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Ted Washabaugh, Peg Bonner (Martin), Edward Washabaugh (Pat), James Washabaugh (Joanne), Richard Washabaugh, Doris Becker (Robert), Bernie Washabaugh, Lynn Dovey (Lee), Debbie Carmack, Susan Washabaugh, Mary Alice Washabaugh, Lauren Etter, and Elliot Deshong. She is survived by Donald Washabaugh, Mona Etter, Sandy Deshong, Carita Washabaugh, Mary Lou Washabaugh, Virginia Washabaugh, Leonard Carmack, nieces, nephew, grandnieces, grandnephews, and the members of her Congregation, the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

Visitation by relatives and friends will begin at 9:30 am on November 25, 2024, at Saint Joseph Villa in Flourtown. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. Services will be livestreamed from the Saint Joseph Villa websitwww.stjosephvilla.org.
