A solemn Mass honoring St. John Henry Newman, Doctor of the Church, will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, 18th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia.
The liturgy will feature sacred music rooted in the English choral tradition, including hymns by St. John Henry Newman and Anton Bruckner’s Os Justi. Father Paul Check, assistant professor at the Pontifical College Josephinum, will serve as homilist.
Following Mass, attendees will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of St. John Henry Newman. The celebration is sponsored by St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bridgeport, and all are invited to attend.
