St. Gabriel’s sees record 142 graduates receive diploma, tech certification
With 142 young men graduating with a diploma and career technical education certificate, St. Gabriel’s System is marking the most graduates since 1985. Officials attribute the rise to the tracking of court-adjudicated young men and boys who have completed the residential program at St. Gabriel’s Hall in Audubon and to the investments made in a night school, which gives students more options to further their education.
Philadelphia selects Catholic Social Services as partner for serving at-risk youth
Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS) has been selected as a Community Umbrella Agency (CUA) for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Human Services (DHS) under its new model Improving Outcomes for Children. CSS is one of three community-based organizations most recently selected by DHS to manage the cases of the city’s most at-risk youth.
Two social service offices to close in Archdiocese; CSS to partner with parishes
Archdiocesan Catholic Social Services (CSS) announced Jan. 4 a restructuring of its Community-Based Services division that will result in fewer sites operated directly by CSS and place a greater emphasis on parish-based services. The new model features a strong emphasis on developing partnerships with successful parish outreach programs throughout the region, a viable alternative approach that leverages CSS support of grass-roots local efforts.
Montgomery County’s Catholic, civic agencies volunteer to make Christmas bright for families
Families in Montgomery County got a big lift just before Christmas, thanks to the efforts of volunteers and staff of Catholic Social Services’ Family Service Center in Norristown, the county seat. The St. Nicholas Store at the center gave out donated gifts to 140 families and 331 children, with another 49 families receiving food from the center’s food cupboard, for two hours last Thursday evening, Dec. 20.
Cabrini College, Catholic Social Services bring Thanksgiving feasts to 280 families
Cabrini College and Catholic Social Services helped make festive Thanksgiving feasts for 280 families in Montgomery County by donating 1,289 pounds of turkeys and all the trimmings – including fresh produce and baked goods – to CSS’ emergency food cupboard in Norristown Nov. 20.
