Erica Forktus, a senior at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School in Fairless Hills, has been named January’s Student of the Month by the Levittown-Fairless Hills Rotary Club. She accepted the award Jan. 26.

The club traditionally honors a deserving student based on nominations from guidance counselors at Bucks County-area schools.

Forktus was recently accepted to United States Military Academy at West Point, one of the most selective colleges in the country and where applicants need a nomination from a member of Congress. She expects to report to the academy in July.

“Erica’s determination is unmatched,” said Janet Dollard, president of Conwell-Egan. “I recall meeting her in her freshman year, where she told me about her dream to attend West Point. Her dedication to her school and her future is evidenced by this wonderful news. We are so proud she has been awarded this great honor, and are confident she will make both CEC and her country proud.”

Erica participates in several extracurricular activities including indoor and outdoor track, soccer, National Honor Society, Environmental and Spatial Technology classes and chairwoman of the Peer Mentors.

She was the captain of the varsity soccer team and is president of the National Honor Society. Outside of school she is involved in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and various community service projects.
