Bishop Herbert Bevard, who was named bishop of St. Thomas in the American Virgin Islands in 2008, after many years of ministry to the African-American community in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, returned to celebrate the annual St. Peter Claver Mass at the Peter Claver Center in Philadelphia Friday, Sept. 9. Auxiliary Bishop John McIntyre was one of the concelebrants at the Mass.
