Dominican Sister of Peace Josefina Rivera-Ortiz, a native of Orocovis, Puerto Rico, died April 25 at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Ky., at the age of 104.
A Dominican sister for 73 years, Sister Josefina served in several of her congregation’s ministries including spiritual retreats at Dominican Retreat House in Elkins Park, and Kendall, Fla.; Residences for Women in Philadelphia and New York City; social work among the poor in Florida, Rio Piedras, PR and in a mission in Cali, Columbia.
In 2013 she moved to Sansbury Care Center where she entered a ministry of prayer until her death.
The funeral Mass was celebrated May 1 in the center’s chapel. Burial was in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
Sister Josefina is survived by several nieces and nephews.
