Dominican Sister of Peace Catherine Marie Servis, a native of Philadelphia, died Dec. 26 at Sansbury Care Center in St. Catharine, Ky. She was 87.
A Dominican for 66 years, Sister Catherine ministered on the retreat staff of the Dominican Retreat House in Elkins Park, at the congregation’s motherhouse in Media, and at retreat houses in Albany and Niskayuna, N.Y.

Her ministry included coordinating volunteers, arranging dining room hospitality and organizing special fund-raising events. Sister Catherine worked closely with young adult volunteers and had a tremendous influence on them.
In retirement she began a ministry of prayer at St. Catharine Hall in Elkins Park and later in Quakertown and Danville, Pa. In 2013 Sister Catherine moved to Sansbury Care Center where she participated in a ministry of prayer and presence.
A memorial Mass was celebrated Jan. 7 at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later date in Philadelphia, with burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
Sister Catherine is survived by one brother, Joseph Servis, and several nieces and nephews.
