Sister Norine Mary Quinn, IHM
Sister Norine Mary Quinn, IHM passed away peacefully at Camilla Hall on September 20, 2026, just shy of her 93rd birthday. Sister served for 75 years as a Sister, Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Born on September 24, 1933, to Edward and Nora (Shaughnessy) Quinn, Theresa was raised alongside her four siblings—one sister and three brothers—in West Philadelphia’s St. Clement Parish. Following her graduation from West Catholic High School in 1951, she entered the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on September 8. She received the religious habit and her name, Sister Norine Mary, on March 11, 1952, subsequently professing her vows.
Graduating in 1967 from Immaculata with an A.B. in Elementary Education, Sister Norine continued in studies in that field at Glassboro State University, completing her M.A. in 1990.
Her teaching vocation began in primary education with an initial assignment at Immaculate Conception Parish in Philadelphia (1954, Grade 2), followed by Queen of Peace Parish in Pottsville (1957, Grade 1). From 1959 to 1968, she continued teaching first grade at several schools: Blessed Virgin Mary in Darby (until 1963), Sacred Heart in Philadelphia (until 1966), and Assumption in Feasterville (until 1968).
In 1968, Sister Norine transitioned to middle grade education, teaching sixth grade at St. Bartholomew School in East Brunswick and St. Rose of Lima School the following year. Beginning in 1971, she taught seventh grade across several assignments, including St. John the Baptist in Manayunk, St. Martin of Tours, St. Joseph in Downingtown, and Blessed Virgin Mary in Darby. She concluded her work in general classroom instruction following assignments at Incarnation Parish (1982) and St. Clement School (1984).
Expanding her educational focus, Sister Norine studied at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science from 1986 to 1990, earning a degree in computer science. She applied this expertise as a technology instructor for grades 1–8 at St. Monica School in South Philadelphia, later continuing technology education at St. Gabriel School (1994) and Good Shepherd School (1998).
In 1999, Sister Norine joined the General Assistance Staff at Camilla Hall for three years. From 2002 to 2004, she resided at Immaculate Heart in Springfield to assist with family care. She returned to Camilla Hall in 2004, serving for the next 13 years as a pastoral visitor at local medical centers, including St. Agnes Medical Center (2004–2007), Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (2007–2008), and Paoli Hospital (2008–2017). She then served as a member of the internal staff at Camilla Hall.
Sister Norine Mary Quinn is survived by her IHM Community, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward J. Quinn and Nora (Shaughnessy) Quinn; her brothers, Edward, James, Jack and Thomas Quinn, and her sister Claire Quinn and extended family members.
