St. Agatha-St. James Parish in Philadelphia’s University City section received a $500 Community Impact Award Jan. 5 from the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia (CFGP).

The award will be used for assistance with the parish’s weekly soup kitchen, run by the University City Hospitality Coalition (UCHC). St. Agatha-St. James is one of the coalition’s five locations that serve meals every week to the public.

The award will also help the parish provide free dental services for people without health care.

UCHC offers services including medical, legal and dental clinics free-of-charge to the community, available on Wednesday evenings at any of the five meal sites in the area.

The coalition has been working with local parishes and organizations since 1984 to ensure that the homeless and hungry are served in a dignified manner.
