Sister Marcella McHale, F.S.P. (the former Patricia McHale), died May 30 in White Plains Hospital in White Plains, N.Y. She was 84.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Sloan) McHale. She attended Immaculate Conception School in Philadelphia and Ladycliff Academy in Highland Falls, N.Y. before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Ladycliff College.

She entered the Franciscan Sisters at Peekskill, N.Y. in August 1958 and professed final vows with the congregation in 1963.
Sister Marcella ministered primarily in education, including schools in the Philadelphia Archdiocese: St. Rita, St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi and St. Paul in South Philadelphia, and Holy Redeemer School in Philadelphia. She also served at St. Agnes Medical Center in South Philadelphia.
She is survived by a brother, James (Janet) McHale, plus nephews, nieces and grandnephews.
The funeral Mass was celebrated June 4 at Marian Woods, Hartsdale, N.Y., and burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers, N.Y.
