Father Frederick Riegler will speak at an Oct. 23 talk about his experiences as a security consultant for Pope John Paul II’s 1979 visit to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
“Protecting the Pope: What We Knew Then, What We Know Now” will take place at 7 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Family Life Center in Pennsburg.
Now pastor of St. Isidore Parish in Quakertown, Father Riegler was a professor at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary when he was chosen to be a liaison with the U.S. Secret Service in preparation for Pope John Paul II’s visit to the seminary in 1979.
