Lord David Alton, a member of the House of Lords in Great Britain’s Parliament, will speak Thursday, Sept. 19 from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. at Malvern Retreat House.
His talk “Being Catholic in Today’s World” followed by a Q&A session with guests discuss Catholic identity and heritage, religious freedom and worldwide Christian persecution in the past, present and future.
A devout Catholic, Lord Alton is a life peer of the House of Lords who began his service in Parliament as a member of the House of Commons in 1979. A renowned expert on the English Catholic martyrs, he is also an advocate for people persecuted for their faith in a time of fundamentalist religious ideology and aggressive secularism.
Malvern Retreat House is located at 315 South Warren Avenue, Malvern.
Lord Alton will also speak on Sept. 19 at the Collegium Institute from 12 to 1:30 p.m. The event will be in Bishop White Room, Houston Hall, University of Pennsylvania, 3417 Spruce Street, Philadelphia.
