Sister Mary Germaine (Josephine) Grabowska, C.S.F.N., died July 31 at Jesus of Nazareth (Mount Nazareth) Convent in Philadelphia. She was 105 and in the 91st year of her religious life.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., she attended St. Stanislaus Kostka School. In 1928, she and a few of her friends traveled by train to Philadelphia to become a part of the first class of students at the newly constructed Nazareth Academy High School. She entered the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth in 1928 and professed her final vows in 1938.
Sister Germaine received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Villanova University in 1954 and served in education ministry in Baltimore, Md.; Wading River, N.Y.; Worcester, Mass.; Plantation, Fla.; and McAdoo, Pa.
She served at Visitation B.V.M. Parish in Norristown for 34 years, retiring at the age of 97.
The funeral Mass for Sister Germaine was celebrated Aug. 4 at Mount Nazareth Chapel in Philadelphia. Donations in her memory may be made to Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, 310 N. River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
