Have you ever had that feeling that the holiday season goes by too quickly, that you meant to focus on the spiritual meaning of Advent and Christmas, but you somehow got swept up in the busyness and rush?
This Tuesday evening, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. will be a chance to take a deep breath and focus on the reason for the season. Reboot your Advent, and join Martin Saints Classical High School for the Festival of Lessons and Carols.
This service of Scripture and song dates to the late 19th century. In it we listen to Scripture readings that recount the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission. Each lesson is followed either by a choral anthem or a beloved carol that all sing together, reflecting on the message and taking us into prayer.
For the third year in a row Martin Saints student choir will lead the songs, but all are welcome to join in. There will be a mixture of old favorites as well as new carols.
The Festival of Lessons and Carols will be held in adjacent Holy Martyrs Church, 120 Allison Road in Oreland, Montgomery County — see directions here.
Also, the next admissions open house for Martin Saints will be Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m.
