Sister Winifred Tormey, S.S.J. (formerly Sister John Michael), age 85, died Feb. 22 at Chestnut Hill Hospital.
The daughter of the late John and Helen Tormey, she attended St. Francis of Assisi Grade School and Little Flower High School.
In September 1952 she entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1960.
Sister Winifred ministered in the archdioceses of Philadelphia, Baltimore, Newark and Washington and the dioceses of Allentown, Harrisburg, Patterson, Trenton and Wilmington.
The sister of James (Charlotte Dornberger) and the late M. Barbara Tormey, she is also survived by a niece and several nephews as well as the members of her Congregation, the Sisters of St. Joseph.
The funeral Mass was celebrated March 2 at St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown.
