Sister Ellen McCarthy SSJ, (formerly Sister Thomas Maureen), age 93, died September 9, 2023, at Saint Joseph Villa.

The daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen McCarthy, she attended St. Mary Grade School and Evening High in Bayonne, NJ.

In September 1950 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1958.

Sister Ellen ministered in the Dioceses of Camden, Metuchen, Newark and Philadelphia.

The sister of Margaret Conway and the late Kathleen McCarthy, she is also survived by nephews, grandnephews and members of her Congregation, the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Villa. Services will also be live streamed from the Saint Joseph Villa website, www.stjosephvilla.org.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sister’s name to Saint Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031.
